Capacity Development for National SDGs Adaptation

At a UN Summit (25-27 September 2015), Member States of the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with a set of Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at its core and recognized that combatting poverty goes hand in hand with economic growth and industrialization, and efforts must be geared towards health, education, social protection, healthy environment and communities resilient to climate change. This new universal agenda requires an integrated approach to sustainable development and collective action, at all levels, to address the challenges of our time, with an overarching imperative of “leaving no one behind” and addressing inequalities and discrimination as the central defining feature.

The results framework of the 2030 Agenda includes 17 SDGs with 169 targets. The SDGs are “integrated and indivisible and balance the three dimensions of sustainable development: the economic, social and environmental.”

The Kyrgyz Government has demonstrated full commitment to the implementation of SDGs and clearly benefited from UN support to integrate the SDGs into upcoming strategic development cycle. Two important strategic documents have been launched in 2018 — long term Strategy 2040 and five-year Government Program Unity,Trust and Creation. Mainstreaming, Acceleration and Policy Support (MAPS) mission is completed and identified 3 accelerators to achieve SDGs. Statistics for SDGs is an integral part of sound evidenced-based decision making within development. The Goal of the Project will be to support the Government to enhance national capacities and raise awareness on SDG-based issues.
