Lebanon’s Biennial Transparency Report on Climate Change
January 7, 2025
Lebanon’s First Biennial Transparency Report (BTR1) highlights progress and challenges in fighting climate change. While greenhouse gas emissions dropped by 32% between 2019 and 2022, this was mainly due to the country's economic crisis rather than planned environmental efforts. The report underscores the fact that Lebanon is especially vulnerable to climate change impacts on its water, agriculture, and forests.
To meet its climate goals, Lebanon’s BTR1 underscores the urgent need for financial assistance, technology transfer, and capacity building to close gaps in mitigation and adaptation efforts. By integrating climate action into its recovery and reconstruction plans. The report also calls for immediate international collaboration to support Lebanon’s sustainable development and climate ambitions amidst its ongoing crises.
