Sweden, Norway and UNDP will support 20 communities on both banks of the Nistru river who want to advance their efforts to increase climate resilience. The beneficiaries’ selection competition is organized by the UNDP project "Resilient communities through women empowerment", funded by Sweden and Norway.

During 2025-2026, the 20 selected localities will receive support to develop or update Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans. Once this process is completed, communities will be able to access three types of assistance:

  • For local communities, up to US$40,000, requiring a 10% co-financing.
  • For women agri-producers, in form of goods and services up to $20,000, requiring a minimum 10% contribution from the beneficiaries.
  • For women engaged in economic activities at the household level, in form of services and goods up to $6,000 and requiring a minimum 5% co-financing.

The expressions of interest to receive support under this programme can be submitted from both rural and urban communities throughout the Republic of Moldova, including the left bank of the Nistru river. The deadline to apply is 30 November 2024, 23:59. Details on eligibility criteria and application conditions can be accessed here.

The competition is targeting communities which have already developed Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans (SECAPs), but need adjustments, inclusion of energy poverty elements, gender aspects etc. Communities that have already developed Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plans by 2020, but need amendments to reflect the current context are also invited. Communities that do not currently have SECAPs but are interested in starting the process of developing them are also encouraged to apply.

30 communities that received support under the first phase of "Resilient communities through women empowerment" project are not eligible to apply.

During 11-26 November, UNDP will conduct information sessions on the conditions and application modality:
