Sweden, Norway, and UNDP will support five community groups involved in the voluntary amalgamation process that seek to strengthen their resilience to climate change. The selection process is organized under the UNDP project “Resilient communities through women empowerment”, funded by Sweden and Norway.

Through climate adaptation measures and greenhouse gas emission reductions, the project will support local public authorities (LPAs) engaged in voluntary amalgamation, contributing to sustainable and efficient local governance. This will enable them to plan and implement long-term sustainable measures. Additionally, the initiative aims to promote women’s economic empowerment and their involvement in local decision-making processes by eliminating barriers they face and providing them with access to training, financial resources, and economic opportunities in the fields of green solutions, energy efficiency, and community development.

The selected community groups will receive support in developing a Joint Sustainable Energy and Climate Action Plan. Upon completion of this process, each group will be eligible to access three types of assistance:

  • For local communities, up to $40,000, requiring a 10% co-financing.
  • For women agro-producers, in the form of goods and services valued at up to $20,000, requiring 10% contribution from the beneficiaries.
  • For women engaged in economic activities at the household level, in form of goods and services up to $6,000, requiring a 5% co-financing.

Expressions of interest for this funding round are open to both rural and urban communities across the Republic of Moldova that have initiated the voluntary amalgamation process. The application deadline is 16 May 2025, at 18:00. Details on the eligibility criteria and participation requirements can be found here(link is external).

On 18 March UNDP will hold information sessions regarding the application process and competition conditions. Those interested in attending need to register by completing this form(link is external).
