In the period of October – November 2015, members of the national teams responsible for compiling the greenhouse gas emissions (GHG) inventory for the energy and forestry sector, have attended several training sessions. The activities were conducted within the “Low Emission Capacity Building Project in the Republic of Moldova", implemented by the Climate Change Office of the Ministry of Environment, in partnership with UNDP. The initiative is funded by the European Union, the Federal Ministry for the Environment, Nature Conservation, Building and Nuclear Safety of Germany and the Australian Government.

The local experts were trained to use the international requirements of a new methodological guide, which will help to estimate in a more accurate manner the emissions of greenhouse gases in various sectors. This guide is provided by the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change, to which Moldova is also part.

At the same time, the national team responsible for the greenhouse gas emissions inventory learned to cope with a specialized software to be used for the new reporting methodology starting with 2016.

"We have received useful recommendations regarding the integrity, transparency, statistics and accuracy of collected data. Thus, we will be able to have more accurate data that will help us to come up with effective mitigation measures and will have our word to say on reducing the global warming" says the coordinator of the national inventory of GHG emissions of the Climate Change Office, Marius Taranu.

“Low Emission Capacity Building Project in the Republic of Moldova" started in 2014 and Moldova is one of 11 participating countries that accessed the 2nd phase of implementation.
