UNDP launches an innovation competition to boost more open-source solutions in Moldova

October 13, 2022

UNDP Moldova launches an innovation competition which will provide funding for digital solutions that are open source. Submissions may either seek to improve existing digital solutions or create new public and private solutions. The competition is conducted in partnership with the e-Governance Agency.

The proposed solutions must meet the characteristics of a digital public good (as defined by the Digital Public Good Alliance), or at a minimum must create new open-source technologies. Open-source technologies can facilitate timely and effective response to many ongoing challenges faced by various communities, given their ability to be reused and localised for specific needs.

Only private entities in the ICT sector that have registered (or in the process of registration) following the legislation of the Republic of Moldova are eligible to apply. Private entities however may choose to partner with other private, public and NGO sector institutions – specialized associations, government agencies, local public administrations, schools, hospitals, universities, research institutions, etc.

The submissions will be evaluated and selected through a competitive process. The winning solutions will be funded by UNDP Moldova, for an amount of up to US$40,000, but not more than 50 percent of the total value of the proposal. In the case of collaborative groups of companies, the contributions will be shared equally between the companies involved or according to the specific requirements of the submitted proposal.

Best open-source solutions proposed under this challenge might be featured in the Digital X Catalogue and adopted by other countries and communities.

All proposals must be submitted by 15 November 2022, 16:00.  More information about the competition is available here.

This innovation competition is carried in the framework of the “Accelerating digital transformation in the public sector in the Republic of Moldova” project.
