Green City Lab Moldova, ready to implement demonstration projects of energy efficiency and sustainable development

The Green City Lab Moldova NGO was officially registered as a non-profit institution founded by four private companies: ABS LTD, AM Sisteme LTD, Simpals LTD, Premier Energy JSC. The initiative to create the NGO came from the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP Moldova) and the Global Environment Facility (GEF), which will provide support to the newly-created entity.

Green City Lab Moldova is the first laboratory of urban innovations. It will guide the transformation of Chisinau municipality and other urban centers into modern, green, and smart European cities, with improved quality of life for their inhabitants and opportunities for sustainable economic growth. The association will become a functional platform to ensure the interaction of municipalities, private sector, experts, donors, and financial institutions, to promote the sustainable development of Moldovan localities.

The association will get involved in implementing demonstrative projects and initiatives of the "Moldova Sustainable Green Cities" project, funded by the Global Environment Facility and implemented by UNDP Moldova. The first projects implemented by Green City Lab Moldova are related to:

  1. ensuring energy efficiency in multi-story buildings, in partnership with SA Termoelectrica;
  2. renewable electricity distributed generation;
  3. collection of plastic and glass bottles using PET's recovery machines.

At the same time, Green City Lab Moldova will diversify its portfolio of services and projects through collaborations with other authorities, private institutions, and donors. The areas of interest in the association's activity are electric mobility, digitization, renewable energy, energy efficiency, intelligent urban planning, waste management, and urban mobility.

Victor Parlicov, energy, climate policy, and sustainable development expert was selected by the Board as the Executive Director of Green City Lab Moldova. He has over 20 years of experience in business consultancy (industry, agriculture, energy) and analysis and expertise in public policy, both for local and central public authorities and international institutions.

Green City Lab Moldova will operate based on a business plan, including a line of services that the association will provide to ensure its sustainability. UNDP Moldova will support the development of the document.
