Khujand, 20.10.2021 – UNDP Resident Representative in Tajikistan Dr. Pratibha Mehta met the Consul General of the Russian Federation in Khujand Mr. Varlamov Andrey during her working visit to Khujand to monitor the progress of the UNDP sub-projects implemented within the framework of the Youth for Business and Innovation supported by the UNDP-Russian Trust Fund for Development.
The delegation focused on projects carried out within the “InnoResponse Challenge” initiative designed to mitigate the negative impact of the COVID-19 pandemic through innovative approaches and ideas that to business development and youth employment.
Dr. Mehta and Mr. Varlamov visited Technopark based in Khujand State University, where youth are undergoing trainings to use modern furniture production tools and technology. The delegation has also visited the innovative greenhouse of the Strawberry Valley project, the Academy of Artificial Intelligence at TajRupt conducting digital employment trainings for your, and the agricultural mini-lab equipped to analyze the quality of soil and honey at the Department of Agriculture and the Association of beekeepers of the Sughd region.
Mr. Varlamov participated in the awarding ceremony of the small grants initiative winners held in the State Business Incubator in Khujand. The grants were awarded as part of the “Youth for Business and Innovation” project’s goal to identify new niches for youth employment and develop necessary business skills. He noted that it is encouraging to witness how youth in Tajikistan does not stand idle and is moving forward in a variety of sectors benefiting the development of the entire Tajik society.
UNDP’s “Youth for Business and Innovation” project funded by the Government of the Russian Federation started in January 2019 and will last till December 2021 with a total budget of $ 1.1 million.
