On June 23, 2020, a practical training on energy efficiency technologies in construction of four-story apartment buildings in rural areas was held in Nukus, Karakalpakstan.

The  training was attended by the representatives of construction and architectural companies and the Nukus city hokimiyat.  At the training modern technologies for warming exterior walls, floors, and roofs of buildings by using energy-efficient construction materials were demonstrated.

The practical training was organized and carried out as a part of our joint project with the Ministry of Construction of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) “Market transformation for sustainable rural housing in Uzbekistan”. The project’s aim is  to provide the rural population of Uzbekistan with the improved, affordable and environmentally friendly living conditions.

In Uzbekistan, the problem of rational use and saving of  fuel and energy resources is being addressed simultaneously in several directions. The most promising of them is associated with energy conservation in various sectors of economic activity, including housing construction. On May 4, 2020 at the meeting devoted to improving efficiency in the fuel and energy industries and optimizing the energy consumption, the President of Uzbekistan said that 40% of the country's electricity is used for heating and lighting. On average, for heating of 1 square meter in Uzbekistan 400 kWh of electricity is used, while in the developed countries it takes only 170 kWh.

“The current trends and perspectives for construction and reconstruction, focus, first and foremost, on the rational approach to the use of energy resources, comfortable microclimate in the premises and reduction of environmental impact. Therefore it is important to use modern energy-efficient construction materials and new technologies”, -  Project Manager, Murod Rasulov stressed during the practical training. 

Our project seeks to enrich and improve the activities of construction companies engaged in the construction of energy-efficient houses by conducting practical trainings for specialists of construction companies based on the study and analysis of the  experts’ experience. The practical training was held for companies involved in building of energy-efficient four-story multi-family rural houses in Karakalpakstan. In 2020, the Project will provide financial assistance for the installation of photovoltaic stations in 22 energy-efficient and low-carbon houses under construction in five pilot regions - Karakalpakstan, Kashkadarya, Bukhara, Namangan and Tashkent regions.

Reducing energy consumption in these houses has also been achieved through the use of high-quality special building materials, insulation of walling, window sealing, automatic temperature control of premises, etc.

In Uzbekistan in 2019 800 one-storey 3-room energy-efficient and low-carbon houses were built, including 176 in Samarkand, 185 in Surkhandarya, 206 in Fergana, 112 in Khorezm, and 121 in Bukhara regions. Within the framework of our joint project with the Ministry of Construction of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the Global Environment Facility (GEF) “Market transformation for sustainable rural housing in Uzbekistan”, were installed photovoltaic stations (PVS) with a capacity of 300 Watts for lighting needs, solar water heaters for hot water supply with a capacity of 200 litres in 10 rural model houses in five pilot regions of Uzbekistan.
