4 June 2020, Tashkent - UNDP’s ‘Sustainable natural resource and forest management in key mountainous areas important for globally significant biodiversity’ project has delivered modern IT equipment to the resource center, while also helping to develop training programmes for improving the knowledge and abilities of staff of the State Committee for Ecology and Environment Protection.
Using the fully-digitized training system the State Committee’s staff can continue learning throughout the quarantine period, from any part of Uzbekistan. During the launch ceremony it has also been agreed to create a separate online learning platform for the specialists working in this area and integrate online learning into a single system.
“Capacity building is essential to sustainable development, especially when innovative thinking is needed,”said Matilda Dimovska, Resident Representative of UNDP Uzbekistan. “UNDP always stands ready to support its national partners in developing capacities across various areas of expertise, including in the environmental field.”
It is expected that staff trained at the resource centre will share their newly-attained knowledge with their colleagues across Uzbekistan. As such, in its current capacity the centre will serve as a nationwide training and learning hub.
“We are grateful for UNDP’s assistance in equipping our resource centre, which be an important institution while we work to protect Uzbekistan’s unique ecosystems and biodiversity from the impacts of climate change and human activities,” said Committee Deputy Chairperson Mr Narzullo Oblomurodov “We look forward to further strengthening our cooperation with UNDP.”
The launch of the Resource centre was proceeded by the web-conference dedicated to the achievements in the area of environment protection and prospective plans.
As a long-standing partner of Uzbekistan’s state and government organizations, UNDP will continue supporting national environmental initiatives implemented by the State Committee for Environment Protection.
