UNDP consults stakeholders on a new landscape management project

UNDP Namibia participated in the National Stakeholder Consultation Meeting at the Ministry of Environment and Tourism Namibia Training Boardroom on 24 July 2018.

The consultation meeting was for the Namibia Integrated Landscape Approach for Enhancing Livelihoods and Environmental Governance to Eradicate Poverty Project (NILALEG) betwwen the working group (WG) as well as the Project Preparation Grant team (PPGT).

The aim of the consultation meeting was to introduce the team of consultants that form part of the PPGT and discuss the approaches that the NILALEG project development team will take in the realization of the project. The Environmental Commissioner, Mr. Teofilus Nghitila welcomed the stakeholders and gave a brief description of the project. The Team Leader of the PPGT introduced the team members and led the stakeholders through discussions on the Outcomes and Outputs of the project.

The PPG Team consists of the following consultants:

1. Ms. Caroline Ashley Petersen- International Specialist on Sustainable Land Management and Biodiversity Conservation Project Development (Team Leader)

2. Mr. Axel Rothauger- Natural Resources Management and Land Management expert (Lead National Consultant)

3. Mr. Ravi Singh Bhalla- International Specialist in Sustainable Forest Management and Landscape Restoration

4. Mr. Jonas Heita- National Specialist in Community-based Natural Resources Management, Nature-based Business and Enterprise Development Expert.

5. Dr. Romie Nghitevelekwa - National Specialist on Livelihoods, Gender and Stakeholder Engagement.

The PPG team with UNDP held Regional field visits for familiarisation of regions and pay courtesy visits to Regional Councillors to introduce the project, identify focal landscapes for the project and get their views on environmental problems in the areas; this will assist the working group as well as the PPGT to finalize the project information documents.

The team embarked on their field visits from 26 July to 02 August and visited the Otjozondjupa, Kunene, Omusati, Ohangwena, Kavango East and West and the Zambezi Regions.
