New York – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has welcomed the Government of Japan’s contribution to the organisation’s regular resource of 7.16 billion JPY (approximately 63.9 million USD) for 2018.
“We welcome and appreciate the generous contribution that Japan is making to UNDP and the wider UN development system. We greatly value our long-standing partnership with Japan and their commitment to governance, women’s empowerment, disaster risk reduction and climate change, global health, the humanitarian development nexus, and strong support to Africa and the Middle East,” said UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner.
Regular resources pay for essential work on the ground, allowing for a timely and flexible response to crises and guaranteeing the high quality and accountability of work, and helping to deliver the maximum value for every dollar contributed.
UNDP’s Assistant Administrator and Director of Bureau of External Relations and Advocacy Ulrika Modéer met the Deputy Permanent Representative of Japan to the United Nations, His Excellency Yasuhisa Kawamura on Tuesday, September 4 to thank Japan for its strong commitment to the organization and to their support for UN development system reform.
The Government of Japan was the second largest donor to UNDP in 2017. Their funding significantly enhances UNDP’s capacities to plan and implement its Strategic Plan and to collaborate towards Agenda 2030, fulfilling the United Nations’ collective commitment to “leave no-one behind”.
