The United Nations Development Programme’s Japan-Caribbean Climate Change Partnership (UNDP J-CCCP) officially handed over a water truck to the Government of the Commonwealth of Dominica. This water truck is specifically designed to maneuver Dominica’s rugged terrain, carrying more than two thousand gallons of water and is commissioned under the ‘Acquisition of a Water Truck for Post Disaster use in Vulnerable Communities’ Pilot Project.
The overall objective in provision of the water truck is to increase water resources to communities that have barriers to access water during climate related hazard events. The parishes of St. Andrew, St. David, St. Paul, St. Patrick and St. Joseph in Dominica will primarily benefit from the water truck, as the most vulnerable. However, the truck is at the disposal of all Dominicans. It will be owned and managed by the Office of Disaster Management (ODM) and operated by the Dominica Water and Sewerage Company Limited (DOWASCO).
