The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and Roberts Construction & Engineering Co. Ltd. after intensive consultations with the Government of Antigua and Barbuda, signed a contract to Rehabilitate the Hanna Thomas Hospital (HTH) under the umbrella of the India-UN Development Partnership Fund.
The aim of the project is to rehabilitate and equip Hannah Thomas Hospital, ensuring structural resilience of the edifices and inclusive access to all patients. This will contribute to improving the provision of basic services to, and wellbeing of, the people in Barbuda.
The rehabilitation works at the Hospital facilities began on November 18th, 2019. The contractor and UNDP will make every effort to finalize the major part of the works between the 31st January and the 15th February 2020. Opening of the refurbished medical facility is expected to happen in March 2020.
The UNDP is pleased to assist the National Office of Disaster Services (NODS) and work with the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Works, Development Control Authority (DCA), Ministry of Agriculture, Fisheries & Barbuda Affairs and Barbuda Council. Their leadership and continued support in the design and implementation of this very important project have been essential.
Earlier, and as part of this same initiative focusing on “Resilient Restoration of Pivotal Public Infrastructure for the Recovery and Sustainable Development of the Island of Barbuda Post Hurricane Irma” supported by the India-UN Development Partnership Fund, the Post Office in Antigua and Barbuda was also retrofitted and equipped and is already fully operational.
