Abbottabad, 17 June 2022- From 13 -17 June 2022, UNDP and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police delivered a comprehensive Training of Trainers (ToT) course to the newly appointed master trainers of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Police. A total of 22 police master trainers, including four women officers participated in the training.

The five-day training of trainers (ToT) course focused on the roles & responsibilities of the new master trainers and modern training skills and challenges in training police officials posted in the Newly Merged Districts (NMDs).

The newly appointed KP Police master trainers are assigned with the important task of providing basic and specialized trainings to the former levies and khasadars that were integrated into the KP Police. To date, a total of 22,000 levies and khasadars, out of the total of 25,981 that were integrated in the KP police, have received these trainings with the remaining participating in ongoing sessions.

In addition to the basic training course, KP Police plans to deliver specialized courses for former levies and khasadars from all seven Newly Merged Districts (NMDs) as part of their onboarding process. The specialized courses will cover a range of topics on public disorder management and riot control, basic investigation skills, community policing, gender responsive policing, and information technology skills. Each training will be completed in two weeks whereby this pool of master trainers is also expected to facilitate the rollout of specialized courses for wider reach across KP police.

Captain (r) Feroze Shah, Deputy Inspector General of Police (Training) Khyber – Pakhtunkhwa said “Improving Local Police Service is an identified key priority within the Khyber – Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Government and UNDP for better policing and police service delivery in the post-merger context of the NMDs in KP. Therefore, capacity development of the former levies and khasadars that have been integrated into KP Police is a key precursor in the smooth transition to formal security and justice systems in NMDs and fundamental to enhancing the rule of law and sustainable peace in the region. The master trainers who have attended this training are based in police training schools and will be leading the rollout of specialized trainings for NMDs police in the next few years.
