LocationsDISABILITY MEASUREMENT, DETERMINATION AND SOCIAL SERVICES: UNDP BRINGS INTERNATIONAL EXPERTISE TO UZBEK PARTNERS

UNDP together with Association of Persons with Disabilities of Uzbekistan, Agency for Development of Medico-Social Services and National Human Rights Center of Uzbekistan organized a 3-day workshop on Disability Measurement and Social Services for People with Disabilities, July 18 – 20, 2022, Tashkent.
Experts from the Association, the Agency, including the members of the medical social expertise commissions of the provincial branches, Ombudsman of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the National Human Rights Center, Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Employment were exposed to the disability statistics collection and usage in measuring disability, best practices and experiences in online briefing by OHCHR experts.
Following the consultation, UNDP launched a workshop on social services where the UNDP expert from Georgia and Uzbek specialists and disability advocates engaged in productive discussion on the social services for children and adults with disabilities and their relationship with the disability determination procedures. The national system of disability determination is working on incorporation of the modern disability determination standards pursuant to the decree of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev of November 27, 2021 that commissions the government to develop the concept of transitioning to the new disability determination system.
They had extensive discussion on experiences of other post-Soviet countries facing similar challenges and agreed to continue cooperation to support the disability reforms in Uzbekistan. Mr. Fazlitdin Sadikov from the Agency thanked the trainers, both experts from OHCHR and the UNDP expert for the opportunity to learn from best practices and international standards and extended an invitation to visit Uzbekistan in person to continue fruitful cooperation aimed to promote the disability reforms.
Ms. Shaghashvili, the UNDP expert, also encouraged Uzbek colleagues to get familiarized with the ongoing work in Georgia, that includes piloting new disability assessment system and social services for children and adults with disabilities.
UNDP will continue to work with its partners in Uzbekistan to support ongoing reforms in the rule of law, good governance, gender equality, green economy and resilient societies.
