Justice systems, services and institutions must be fair, accountable, accessible and able to deliver quality justice services for all, especially the most marginalised and furthest behind. UNDP believes that a people-centred approach to justice means change efforts within justice systems must be guided by and responsive to people’s everyday justice needs–both criminal and civil–and the causes of injustice. Acknowledging that formal justice systems represent only one avenue for seeking justice, this approach emphasises the quality and efficacy of the full array of state and non-state (customary and informal) justice service providers.
Within the Justice Futures Colab, we test, learn and adapt innovative solutions for increasing access to justice as key for preventing, responding and recovering from crisis, conflict and fragility. We give particular attention to enabling access to justice for the most excluded, marginalized and vulnerable, women and girls, and migrants and displaced persons.
