Strengthening Women’s Disaster Management Capacities in Guyana and Dominica (GUY-DOM)
The agriculture sector is Dominica’s primary industry; however, it is constantly threatened by reoccurring disasters. The Strengthening Disaster Management Capacity of Women in the Cooperative Republic of Guyana and Commonwealth of Dominica aims to scale up the resilience of small farmers and women farmer groups by enhancing risk-informed decision making and community support.
Women are often first responders during disasters, and this project specifically targets women farmers to ensure that their needs in disaster preparation, adaptation and mitigation are duly met. Funded by the Government of Japan for the benefit of the people of Guyana and Dominica; the project focuses on creating opportunity for participants to gain knowledge about risk management; improving the sustainability and resilience of livelihoods and assets of vulnerable and marginalized persons, including women and indigenous persons.
