Ulaanbaatar–30 March 2023: United Nations Development Programme in Mongolia formed the Civil Society Advisory Committee today to further enhance its partnership with civil society organizations. Civil society plays a crucial role in Mongolia’s development by promoting accountability and transparency while empowering citizens to participate in decision-making processes. 

Established in 2000 at the global level, the UNDP Civil Society Advisory Committee (CSAC) is an advisory body of the UNDP to systematize the consultation process between UNDP and civil society actors. 

UNDP in Mongolia has maintained a robust collaboration with civil society actors over the years including the designing of its new Country Programme Document for 2023-2027 and the creation of this group is a testament to UNDP’s strong commitment to an inclusive and participatory approach in Mongolia, recognizing that civil society plays a critical role in promoting inclusive sustainable development. 

Through the CSAC, UNDP is seeking to foster an open dialogue, engage in meaningful consultations, and work collaboratively with civil society organizations operating in UNDP’s key programme areas towards achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. 

The CSAC brings together a diverse range of civil society actors in Mongolia who are doing highly impactful works in the areas of gender equality, youth, rights of persons with disabilities, media, renewable energy, governance, rural development, environment, digitalization, and sustainable financing. 

The CSAC also serves as a platform for the civil society organizations to voice their concerns, raise awareness on critical issues, and work with UNDP on the rights of the marginalized and vulnerable groups. 

“We believe that the collective insights, expertise, and experiences of the Committee members will provide valuable inputs for our programming and strategy, enabling us to design more effective and impactful interventions that leave no one behind towards a more equitable, just, and sustainable future for every woman, man, girl and boy in Mongolia. We look forward to engaging in a two-way dialogue with our CSAC members going forward.” said Ms. Elaine Conkievich, UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia during the inception meeting.
