From artificial intelligence and robotics to alternative proteins and indoor farms: technology promises to revolutionise our global agrifood systems.

But only if technology reaches everywhere and everyone who needs it.

So far, the development and deployment of novel agrifood technologies have been limited primarily to high-income countries. This is in stark contrast to their potential for significant impact in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), which produce most of the world's food and employ the majority of the global agrifood workforce.

In this context, the UNDP Singapore Global Centre, with the support of Singapore’s Ministry of Sustainability and the Environment, is launching this Article Series to explore how novel agrifood technologies can play a more significant role in the sustainable development of LMICs. The articles will examine agrifood technologies and their applications, considering both their benefits and risks. This series aims to emphasise how systems, stakeholders, and policies can be enabled to facilitate the wider adoption of these innovations in the places that need them most.
