Objectives

The objective of the Action, as described by the Technical Committee on Culture was to develop a short video composed of ten self-recorded poems about the impact of COVID-19, by five poets from each community.

The Technical Committee on Culture reviewed the poems reflecting the impact of COVID-19, and identified five poems from each community (a total of ten poems). The selected poems were than translated into three languages (Greek, Turkish and English) by professional translators. 

Poets recorded themselves reading their poems in home-setting, further reflecting the impact of COVID-19 and lock down in Cyprus. In addition, Co-Chairs of the Technical Committee provided their self-recordings as an introduction to the video.

Results

The Action has contributed to the enhancement of the visibility of the Technical Committee on Culture and continued bi-communal collaboration in spite of difficult times the island is going through due to COVID-19.  During the implementation phase members of the Technical Committee were in close contact and collaboration to ensure successful completion. Overall this initiative contributed towards strengthened cooperation and knowledge sharing between Greek Cypriot and Turkish Cypriot professional communities and solidifying the capacity of the Technical Committee as an effective inter-communal mechanism for identifying, planning and implementing projects and initiatives that foster mutual understanding and cooperation.
