Ambassador of Japan to Uzbekistan visits Karakalpakstan to review UNDP project results

Nukus, Karakalpakstan, July 1, 2024 – Mr. Hatori Takashi, the Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Japan to Uzbekistan, accompanied by First Secretary Ms. Tae Takita-Sato, arrived in Nukus today for a focused visit to get acquainted with the results of UNDP project funded by the Government of Japan.
The main purpose of their visit is to assess the impact and progress of the UNDP project, which has been instrumental in enhancing local development initiatives in Karakalpakstan. The Ambassador and First Secretary participateв in various events and meetings during their visit, aimed at deepening their understanding of local needs and the project's contributions to achieving sustainable development goals.
Mr. Hatori Takashi and Ms. Tae Takita-Sato participated in a crucial meeting at the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Karakalpakstan, engaging with key stakeholders including Mr. Nurullan Erlepesov, 1st Deputy Chairman of the Council of Ministers, and representatives from UNDP Uzbekistan. Discussions centered on the project's achievements and its contributions to sustainable development goals in the region.
Following the meeting, the delegation visited the UNDP Project Office in Nukus, where they were briefed by Mr. Alisher Utemisov, UNDP Programme Manager in Karakalpakstan, on the project's methodologies and outcomes. This was followed by a visit to project sites in the Nukus district, including the "Tahirkol" community, where they observed firsthand the project's impact on local communities, particularly in agricultural practices and beekeeping. There was ceremony of handing over inventories to beekeepers along with certificates.
Additionally, the Ambassador and First Secretary had the opportunity to visit the "Samanbay" community to explore the UNDP Joint Programme site on Smart Agriculture in partnership with the International Innovation Center under the Ministry of Ecology.
Mr. Hatori Takashi expressed his satisfaction with the progress made under the UNDP project and reiterated Japan's ongoing support for sustainable development efforts in Uzbekistan.
About the project: The UNDP Project “The Project for Supporting Self-reliance through Climate-resilient Agriculture in the Aral Sea Region” is financed by the government of Japan and being implemented 2023-2025 and contribute to addressing multiple human insecurities of people, living in the most vulnerable districts of Karakalpakstan, which are fully aligned with the policies and strategies of the Government of Uzbekistan on addressing the Aral Sea crises.
