Policy recommendations on incorporation of a family-based approach in the design and delivery of care services

October 25, 2024

The aim of this policy paper is to propose recommendations for incorporating a family-based approach in the development and creation of care services within the care economy. In line with its aim this paper identifies best practices, evidence-based strategies, and policy frameworks to improve care services that prioritize family-based care as a central pillar.

A family-based approach in the care economy emphasizes the importance of strong families as the basic social unit in society. This approach recognizes that families play a crucial role in providing care and support to their members. It means both that every member of the family is empowered to make their choices and to access sufficient resources, time arrangements and services to live in dignified conditions and fully participate in society; but it also means that no family should be excluded because of their composition, economic resources or the disability status of one of their members.
