Ulaanbaatar, 6 December 2024 – The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Mongolia and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry (MOFALI) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU), marking a step forward in aligning efforts to transform the agricultural sector. The intention is to advance cooperation between the organizations in improving agriculture sector resilience, enhancing public and private financing for sustainable agriculture, scaling up sustainable livestock management practices, enhancing agricultural sector policies with transformative climate actions in land and natural resource use, empowering stakeholders across the livestock value chain, capacity building of herder cooperatives, and mobilization of multistakeholder platform around core initiatives. The agreement underscores a shared commitment to creating a greener, more resilient future for Mongolia.

“This MoU reflects our shared vision of building a sustainable and resilient future for Mongolia's agriculture and light industry sectors. With UNDP's support, we are committed to developing a 21st Century National Agriculture Policy that integrates transformative climate action, strengthens resilience, and empowers communities. Together, we will ensure that our agriculture sector evolves to meet the challenges of the modern era while contributing to sustainable development and green economic growth,” said His Excellency Enkhbayar Jadamba, Minister of Food, Agriculture, and Light Industry.

“Today’s MoU represents a significant milestone in our support to Mongolia in building a sustainable and resilient future for Mongolia. Agriculture and animal husbandry are not only central to Mongolia’s economy but also to the livelihoods and heritage of its people. By integrating transformative climate action into national policies, enhancing resilience, and promoting sustainable practices, we aim to support Mongolia in addressing the urgent challenges posed by climate change,” said Ms. Matilda Dimovksa, UNDP Resident Representative in Mongolia.
