Creating Collaboration Opportunities for Conflict-affected Animators and Filmmakers from the South Caucasus and Moldova
December 11, 2024
Thirteen emerging filmmakers and animators from conflict-affected region of the South Caucasus and Moldova came together for the documentary animation workshop “AnimaDoc”, designed to collaborate, discuss shared challenges, and build professional networks through language of art and animation, that transcend geopolitical and cultural divides.
Organized in conjunction with the KIN International Women’s Film Festival by the “Legal Gender Cultural Foundation LIZA”, the workshop received support from the European Union and UNDP under the EU4Dialogue programme.
For one week, “AnimaDoc” provided a platform for these talented individuals to express their personal stories and amplify their voices on the global stage, emphasizing the power of using animated documentaries as tools for dialogue, self-expression, and cultural exchange. The team-building sessions aimed at overcoming communication barriers and promoting collaboration among participants from diverse backgrounds helped strengthen their professional networks, boost their confidence, and solidify their collective commitment to promoting peace through art and shared creative experiences. The workshop programme, led by industry experts Mariam Kandelaki and Gabriele Brunnenmeyer, included the intensive training on storytelling, animation techniques, and script development. Participants also created 1-minute animated trailers, which will serve as the foundation for their larger projects.
The AnimaDoc workshop culminated in a closing ceremony attended by 120 guests, where participants presented their animated documentaries to a panel of industry experts, media representatives, and KIN festival partners, including the EU and UNDP.
"Art and creativity have always played a key role in the process of mutual understanding and bridging across cultural divides.
