Inclusive Governance and Peacebuilding
December 19, 2024
UNDP’s inclusive governance and peacebuilding efforts focus on strengthening community resilience and addressing ethnic and tribal divisions exacerbated by the 2023 conflict.
Peace initiatives: UNDP drives and facilitates locally-led peace initiatives that foster reconciliation and establish inclusive governance. The portfolio empowers women as key actors in peace processes while implementing protection frameworks for vulnerable populations, including mental health support (MHPSS) and gender-based violence prevention. Through partnerships with UN agencies and drawing on international best practices, UNDP provides technical expertise for democratic processes, constitutional reforms, and institutional capacity building when political conditions align.
Mediation and dialogues: UNDP implements multi-level mediation and dialogue platforms that strengthen social cohesion through intercommunal engagement. Building on global peacebuilding experience, the organization supports security sector reform, ex-combatant reintegration, and post-conflict rehabilitation. This includes restoring critical infrastructure and strengthening local governance systems to establish sustainable peace and resilient institutions that promote inclusive community relations.
