Climate and disaster resilience
To build sustainable futures
UNDP has been supporting the country in its efforts to ensure better management of its valuable natural resources, combatting climate change and investing in disaster risk reduction. In recent years, UNDP has been providing expert assistance to policy-makers in transposing UN conventions on environmental issues and EU environmental directives into the national legal framework, and in helping the country meet its reporting commitments on climate change. It has implemented long-term initiatives to restore the Prespa Lake and Strumica River ecosystems.
UNDP has also established itself as the country’s “go-to organization” on flood prevention, completing risk assessments for virtually every river basin and every torrential stream in the country, and repairing or building flood-prevention infrastructure in high-risk areas.UNDP has also implemented energy efficiency measures to make schools and public buildings cheaper, safer and healthier.
