Viticulture is one of the most important national sectors, with wine being a significant export commodity. Viticulture, together with the wine production sector, contributes approximately 17–20% of agricultural GDP. The national vineyards have an unfavourable structure in terms of the age and size of the plantation. Over 60% of vineyards are more than 15 years old and plots are very small. This situation of small parcels and old plantations makes the viticulture sector vulnerable to the negative impact of climate change, especially due to the low capacity of farmers to apply effective measures for adaptation.
