The Australian Government has reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening Papua New Guinea’s and the Autonomous Region of Bougainville’s parliamentary processes by extending funding for ‘Strengthening Papua New Guinea Parliament Project’ for an additional 18 months.

To mark the important milestone, Mr. Nicholas Booth, Resident Representative, UNDP; Ms. Penny Morton, Minister Counsellor of the Australian High Commission; and Mr. Kala Aufa, Clerk of the National Parliament, each signed the agreement during an official ceremony, held at the National Parliament in late 2024.
“The extension of this project demonstrates the trust and confidence in our joint efforts to strengthen democratic governance in Papua New Guinea. UNDP is proud to continue working with the National Parliament, the Bougainville House of Representatives, and our Australian partners to enhance parliamentary effectiveness and public engagement,” Mr. Nicholas Booth stated during his speech.
