Leveraging Non-traditional Datasets for Assessing Socioeconomic Impact of COVID-19 across Philippine Households

This brief made use of non-traditional datasets to complement official data source to generate granular insights with high frequency to inform socioeconomic recovery efforts in the Philippines. With the use of fast-moving consumer goods (FMCG) and mobility data, it has shown how households from different geographic areas and socioeconomic groups are recovering from COVID-19 crisis in terms of spending capacity. This uncovered emerging dynamics on how recovery is uneven with significant implications for public policy. By using non-traditional datasets, the policy brief demonstrated untapped potential of such data for policy-making and outlines the pathway to harness this potential in the future.
