UNDP engages at the UN Human Rights Council to provide evidence-based development perspectives to policy debates and strengthen partnerships for human rights for sustainable development in countries.

The Human Rights Council has a mandate to promote and protect human rights globally, to address situations of human rights violations and make recommendations on them. It has the ability to discuss thematic human rights issues and situations that require its attention through sessions throughout the year.  

UNDP engages at the Human Rights Council to provide evidence-based development perspectives to policy debates and strengthen partnerships for human rights for sustainable development in countries. UNDP’s strategic engagement contributes practically at the high-level, thematic and technical discussions at the Human Rights Council to further technical cooperation.

In 2022, UNDP made 11 interventions at the HRC, was referenced in 68 reports and 3 resolutions and was mentioned verbally 5 times during interactive dialogues, thematic and country discussions.
