UNDP Sudan’s new Resident Representative, Luca Renda, presents credentials to the Sudanese Minister of Foreign Affairs

Port Sudan, 22 May 2024 – UNDP Sudan’s newly appointed Resident Representative, Mr. Luca Renda, has presented his credentials to the Minister of Foreign Affairs in Port Sudan.

Mr. Renda expressed his appreciation to the Government for the warm reception extended to him and reaffirmed UNDP’s continued commitment and support to the people of Sudan.

Mr. Renda brings over 25 years of extensive experience in development settings. Prior to this role, he served as Head of the Recovery Solutions and Human Mobility Team at the UNDP Crisis Bureau in New York since 2020.
Beginning his United Nations career as a UN Volunteer in Liberia in 1997, Mr. Renda has held numerous significant positions within UNDP. His roles include Program Manager in the Emergency Response Division and the Regional Bureau for Latin America and the Caribbean, Deputy Resident Representative in Ecuador and Honduras, and Country Director in Lebanon. In Lebanon, he played a crucial role in the UN's response to the Syrian crisis from 2012 to 2017.

Between 2017 and 2020, Mr. Renda undertook several special assignments, including leading the UN Crisis Management Unit in Dominica and coordinating post-disaster recovery efforts, serving as Resident Representative in Guyana, and acting as Special Advisor for the UN transition in Haiti.

Mr. Renda holds a degree in Political Science/International Relations from LUISS University, obtained in 1994, and a Master of Science in Development Studies from the London School of Economics. He is married and has two children.
