Resilient Livelihoods
December 19, 2024
UNDP's transformative strategy for resilient livelihoods and robust food systems in Sudan tackles the devastating eects of conflict, severe climate change, and economic collapse through innovative climate-adaptive agriculture and strategic livelihood diversification.
Agriculture: Critical interventions encompass implementing drought-resistant crop varieties, modernizing irrigation infrastructure, and executing regenerative land management protocols.
Livelihoods: UNDP catalyzes value chains for small and medium-sized enterprises (MSMEs/SMEs) by establishing robust market linkages, optimizing storage facilities and processing capabilities, and securing microfinance access. Targeted support enhances women, youth, and marginalized populations' access to resources and income, building economic resilience and becoming self-sustaining. This includes spearheading emergency employment initiatives through cash-for-work programs and community kitchens.
Infrastructure: UNDP leads the reconstruction of vital infrastructure, including advanced water yards, high-capacity irrigation dams, and strategic community warehouses. This comprehensive intervention reinforces social protection systems, strengthens the food system, and builds community resilience against economic and environmental crises.
