The National Guidelines aims to provide practical guidance to school administration on how to prepare for and respond to a tsunami risk in Thailand. The guideline comprises of 3 components; steps of tsunami evacuation drill, tsunami preparedness plan for students and persons with special needs, and one day programme for conducting tsunami drill in school. This is the first National Guideline adopted by Thailand’s Ministry of Education and the training of trainers programme.
By having this guide adopted by 27,000 schools as per the instruction of the Office of the Basic Education Commission, the Ministry of Education is improving their Tsunami preparedness and enhancing the safety of their students and teachers in case of a tsunami event. With comprehensive disaster risk reduction (DRR) techniques and steps to conduct disaster drills in schools, teachers and educational personnel can work with their students to complete their emergency plans according to their disaster contexts.
