As part of the Model Factory initiative, the Ministry of Industry and Technology of Türkiye and UNDP visited Germany to explore best practices in lean manufacturing, digital transformation, and automation. The visit is expected to play a unique role in transferring lessons learned by the German manufacturing industry to the context of Türkiye.

UNDP’s dedication to establishing and maintaining strong cross-regional partnerships was demonstrated during a recent mission where a delegation consisting of representatives from the Ministry of Industry and Technology of the Republic of Türkiye and UNDP Türkiye paid a visit to various institutions in Germany. The visit brought stakeholders from Türkiye together with their counterparts in Germany to explore best practices in lean manufacturing, digital transformation, and automation, while fostering international collaboration and knowledge exchange with key industry stakeholders.
Why Strategic Cross-Regional Partnerships Matter?
Strategic partnerships expand the scope of impact of all actions by uniting diverse resources and expertise towards addressing mutual challenges. Aligning with government policies, private sector innovation, and community needs is essential to achieving the SDGs. In this context, the study visit to Germany showcased how partnerships enable knowledge sharing amongst cross-cultural stakeholders. UNDP Türkiye project team and the Ministry Expert Team of the Model Factory Phase II Project visited leading institutions in Germany such as Fraunhofer to explore innovative techniques in digitalization and lean manufacturing to integrate them into the operating procedures of SME Capability Center - Model Factories in Türkiye. The technology hubs visited in Stuttgart and Aachen, known for their innovative industrial and technological developments, were selected based on several criteria aligned with the project’s focus on innovation and research excellence and Türkiye’s industrial goals.
The main purpose of this visit was to draw inspiration from the country’s advanced industrial and technological practices and adapt these success stories to transform Türkiye’s industry in a sustainable and competitive manner.
Bridging Knowledge and Action

The German manufacturing industry is renowned for integrating technological advancement into the manufacturing processes.
