The employees and managers of Model Factories which provide training and consulting services to enhance SME productivity and accelerate digital transformation processes came together for the first time on 9 to 12 December 2021 at the training in Antalya hosted by the Ministry of Industry and Technology in partnership with UNDP.
Established by the Ministry of Industry and Technology and United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Model Factories have since 2019 been promoting and teaching the principles of operational excellence to enterprises through experiential training and on-site applications in the leading industrial cities of Turkey namely Ankara, Konya, Kayseri, Bursa, Gaziantep, Mersin, Adana and Izmir. Functioning as the solution partner in the growth and modernization of the manufacturing industry, the Model Factories came together for the training sessions organized to enhance their staff capacities.
Featuring both informative and practical sessions, the training programme offered informative and participative presentations on such topics as production systems and lean production, aspirations and expectations of Model Factories in Turkey, global practices and cases, components of Model Factory Performance Monitoring and Evaluation System, strategic planning and training of trainers, as well as exercises for individual and institutional development.
Aiming to strengthen the dialogue and collaboration between Model Factory teams, the activities covered workshops on positive approach, mastery of dialogue and understanding different cultures as well as exercises on making a difference by offers. Chain reaction exercises were held to enhance competences to view problems out of the box in an innovative and original perspective, and walk on various solutions to reach new conclusions. Participants engaged in a team work simulation covering a project design from scratch to actualization including production, assembly, design, project and resource management processes, and produced a creative and operational system observing certain rules.
The event brought together all Model Factory teams for the first time, and offered the opportunity to share and assess various experience through the process. The employees of Model Factories from 8 provinces of Turkey and representatives of the public stakeholders of the project became closely acquainted, and more knowledgeable on the visions of Model Factories, current works, and expected outcomes from the Performance Monitoring and Evaluation System.
Designed to encourage SMEs to adopt the lean production philosophy and increase productivity in the sector, the Model Factory Project commenced in 2015 by a partnership of Ministry of Industry and Technology and UNDP.
