Christophoros Politis
Deputy Resident Representative of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Ukraine
Mr. Politis brings more than 15 years of accumulated experience in various development contexts (LDC, LIC, MIC), with a notable track record in highly complex, volatile and transitional settings.
Prior to this assignment, Mr. Politis served in leadership positions for UNDP as Deputy Resident Representative in Tajikistan, and as Chief Technical Advisor of Governance in Ethiopia, Myanmar, and Iraq. Throughout his career, he has been a staunch advocate of and contributed to advancing the Humanitarian-Development-Peace nexus and supported reforms and restructuring to strengthening resilience, inclusivity and advancing peace and human rights. He has commendable substantive contributions to public policies (at country and regional levels) promoting democratic participation, institution building, human rights, local development, anticorruption and effective and inclusive service delivery.
Prior to joining UNDP, Mr. Politis assumed the role of Governance Officer at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) where he provided technical advisory services to ESCWA member states addressing root cause of instability and conflict, and contributed to the formulation and harmonization of cross-sectoral policies in support of inclusive and sustainable service delivery and citizens engagement in policy development. Prior to his career at the UN, Mr. Politis was active in the non-profit sector, with his last assignment being with Mercy Corps as Country Director in Lebanon.
Mr. Politis has a Bachelor degree, a Master degree, and a Diplome d’Etudes Approfondies (DEA) in Political Science from the Université Saint-Joseph (USJ) of Beirut, the Institut d’Etudes Politiques (IEP) of Toulouse and the Université Catholique de Louvain (UCL) of Brussels. He is a Greek national and speaks fluent Greek, French, English and Arabic.
