Women’s political participation and representation at the subnational level: background, challenges and needs
February 5, 2021
The publication is a part of the 'Enhancing Women’s Political Participation campaign at the Subnational level' project, which is being implemented from August 2020 to July 2021 in four regions of Ukraine (Kherson, Mykolaiv, Zakarpattya and Khmelnytskyi). The publication aims to enhance public awareness about the need for full, equal, free and democratic participation of women on equal terms with men in political and public life.
The project provides for the development and implementation of online and offline training courses for newly elected women councillors or decision-makers and an educational campaign. In order to take into account the demands and needs of the target audience, as well as to be inlined with the world's best practices in involving women in politics, UNDP in Ukraine conducted this study and took into account: 1) analysis of international practices in involving women in local politics, 2) Ukrainian context and current status of the involvement of women, 3) results of online survey and in-depth interviews with the target audience.
