The Thai ethnic community in Thanh Lam commune, Ba Thuoc district, Thanh Hoa province is one of the minority communities facing many challenges. Located in a remote mountainous area, the people primarily rely on agricultural and forestry activities, as well as harvesting forest products; however, their income remains limited.
To reduce poverty, mitigate risks, and proactively address potential adverseimpacts from external factors, such as infectious diseases from tourists, the people of Thanh Lam Commune, Don Village, must not only improve their livelihoods but also strengthen their immunity to prevent diseases. These objectives can be achieved by leveraging local natural resources from the mountains and forests, such as sustainably harvesting medicinal plants like Sarcandra glabra.
Sarcandra glabra is a valuable native medicinal plant that thrives in the forests of the Pu Luong mountainous region, particularly in Thanh Lam Commune. Given its significant potential as a raw material for local beverages and medicinal products, sustainable exploitation and development of Sarcandra glabra should be prioritized. To achieve this, several key issues must be addressed, including identifying suitable plant seedlings, developing effective planting and care techniques for the species under the forest canopy, and implementing harvesting and processing methods that preserve the quality of active ingredients. By focusing on these areas, the community can improve livelihoods while promoting environmental sustainability.
