The project “Preserving and enhancing the value of traditional salt-making associated with tourism development in the coastal area of Hoa Binh district, Bac Lieu province” was implemented in Vinh Thinh commune, Hoa Binh district. The area, known for its long-standing tradition of sustainable salt production, is riddled with severe challenges from climate change.
This two-year project aligns perfectly with the community’s aspirations, the development plan of the Hoa Binh District People’s Committee and the objectives of GEF-SGP. The project aims to strengthen the traditional salt production model, ensuring its stability and contributing to increased livelihoods, green development, and climate change adaptation, through responsible management of land, water, and biodiversity resources in the area.
The project prioritizes environmental sustainability while promoting the development of unique local agricultural products. Inherited from Vinh Thinh’s rich history of “Ba That” salt production and the characteristics of Mekong Delta with alluvial deposits, tropical climate, and fertile soil, the project fosters the creation of local specialties, namely, alluvial pink salt and sea purslane, all integrated with a focus on community-oriented ecotourism.
