National Adaptation Plan (NAP) of Bosnia and Herzegovina
National Adaptation Plan (NAP) of Bosnia and Herzegovina
December 21, 2022
Bosnia and Herzegovina finalized and submitted its Climate Change National Adaptation Plan (NAP) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), officially published on 21 December 2022. This comprehensive document is the result of extensive collaboration among representatives across all levels of government and was developed with the support of UNDP in BiH within the project “Advancing the National Adaptation Plan process in BiH" financed by the Green Climate Fund (GCF).
In response to the growing urgency to address climate change, the NAP aligns with UNFCCC guidelines, providing an analysis of vulnerability and risk, sector-specific impacts, and proposed adaptation measures.
The NAP contains an analysis of the current regulatory framework and technical studies in BiH, climate change trends, future climate projections, an overview of the impact by sector, and proposals for medium-term measures to reduce the negative consequences of climate change on the most vulnerable sectors, including agriculture, water and forest resources, biodiversity, and tourism.
The NAP process was established by the Conference of the Parties (COP 16) in 2010 and supports countries in identifying and addressing adaptation needs, aligning with the goals of the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
