Project
Greening the Future, Advancing Rights and Stability
Spurring an Inclusive and Green Transition with Responsive Governance in the Eastern Neighborhood Region
Overview
The Regional Project ‘Greening the Future, Advancing Rights and Stability: Spurring an Inclusive and Green Transition with Responsive Governance in the Eastern Neighborhood Region’ is funded by the Government of Denmark and implemented by UNDP.
Focusing on Georgia and Moldova, the US$10.8 million initiative, spanning from 2024 to 2027, aims to bolster environmental governance and foster a climate-sensitive economy. Out of the total budget, approximately US$4.29 million is allocated to Georgia, US$4.27 million to Moldova, and US$2.2 million to fund enhanced regional cooperation efforts between the two countries.
What We Do
In Georgia, the project contributes to reducing territorial disparities by facilitating inclusive, area-based development and a green transition in the municipalities of Poti and Khobi. The project adopts a holistic approach to interventions, focusing on strengthening key enablers of the green transition and targeting specific green transition-related sectors and communities.
The Greening the Future project develops people-centred and innovative solutions that promote a green and just transition, ensuring the green transition is locally driven, inclusive, just, and resilient. Focusing initially on the Poti and Khobi municipalities, the project aims to create scalable, evidence-based models for local economic development and citizen engagement, ultimately fostering resilient, sustainable, and low-emission communities across Georgia.
The project aims to:
- Foster green and just transition in targeted municipalities.
- Support climate action and build climate resilience through energy efficiency, renewable energy, sustainable mobility, and nature-based solutions.
- Engage citizens, businesses, and civil society organisations in local climate action and sustainable economic development.
- Enhance economic opportunities through skills development, circular economy and green jobs.
Expected Impact
By the end of the project, the following results are anticipated:
- Strengthened local capacities for sustainable economic development.
- Increased investments in green solutions, circular economy and sustainable business models in selected regions.
- Enhanced clean energy usage and reduced carbon footprint in targeted municipalities.
- Empowered civil society actors engaged in climate-related decision-making and monitoring.
- Vulnerable groups have access to green transition benefits, such as green jobs.
