Jakarta, October 15, 2024 – Indonesia has made substantial progress in strengthening its medical supply chain and logistics with the introduction of SATUSEHAT Logistics, a key component of the broader national health data ecosystem, SATUSEHAT platform. SATUSEHAT Logistics integrates an end-to-end process of supply chain for pharmaceuticals and medical devices, from production, procurement to distribution at the provincial level to healthcare facilities.

SATUSEHAT Logistic primary objective is to centralize data, enhancing the efficiency and accuracy of tracking and distribution processes across the archipelago. Distribution is carried out in real-time using the Electronic Health Logistics Monitoring and Inventory System (SMILE), as mandated by the Ministry of Health Decree No. HK.01.07/MENKES/1568/2024.

Through this system, SATUSEHAT Logistics ensures the timely and appropriate availability of medicines and medical devices, thereby improving healthcare services for the population, making sure no one is left behind.

Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin expressed “Digitalization is one thing, what matters is integration. (Therefore) don’t build another platform, use the platform that has been built by UNDP (SMILE), but enhance the capacity so it will benefit more people,” he said on Tuesday (15/10) in Jakarta.

Today, SMILE helps manage over 800 million doses of vaccines and 100 million doses of medicines at 10,000 healthcare facilities across 38 provinces. Its function has been expanded to cover various health commodities, including routine immunizations, tuberculosis, malaria, HIV, rabies, and medical waste management. Bringing the successful implementation of SMILE technology, SATUSEHAT Logistics will provide real-time visibility into the availability of pharmaceuticals and medical devices, ensuring a faster response in critical situations.

UNDP Indonesia Resident Representative Norimasa Shimomura said, “Behind every statistic is a life transformed—SMILE’s success in delivering vaccines and medications translates into healthier children, empowered women, and stronger, more resilient communities.”

The introduction of SATUSEHAT Logistics was officiated by Minister of Health Budi Gunadi Sadikin, along with representatives from the Directorate of Immunization, Directorate of Pharmaceutical Services and Management, Directorate of Communicable Diseases, Directorate of Environmental Health, the Center for Data and Information (Pusdatin), the Office of Digital Transformation, health office heads from 38 provinces across Indonesia, and development partners from the Ministry of Health.

“SATUSEHAT Logistics is an investment in future generations—the stronger our health system, the better the future for the next generation,” Minister Budi concluded.

Supported by various stakeholders, the launch of SATUSEHAT Logistics marks a major milestone in the digitalization of national health logistics, bringing Indonesia closer to a integrated, more equitable, and resilience healthcare system.
