About Us

UNDP works in about 170 countries and territories, helping to eradicate poverty, reduce inequalities and exclusion, and build resilience so countries can sustain progress. As the UN’s development agency, UNDP plays a critical role in helping countries achieve the Sustainable Development Goals. UNDP began its operations in Kosovo in 1999 and will mark 25 years of presence in 2024.

Funding and delivery

In order to achieve its mandate, UNDP relies entirely on voluntary contributions from UN Member States, multilateral organizations, private sector and other sources, in the form of unrestricted regular resources (core), and contributions earmarked for a specific theme, programme or project.

Legal framework

Accountability is the obligation to demonstrate that work has been conducted in accordance with agreed rules and standards and report fairly and accurately on performance results vis-à-vis mandated roles and/or plans.

For over 20 years, UNDP in Kosovo is bringing together institutions, development partners, civil society, and the private sector to design and implement practical solutions for complex challenges. By contributing to equitable development for all, and by applying the principle of Leave No One Behind, we support Kosovo on its path towards the Sustainable Development Goals.

Our Team

The UNDP Resident Representative acts on behalf of the UNDP Administrator and is the head of the CO being ultimately responsible for programme and operational activities of UNDP, the quality and sustainability of UNDP interventions, including UNDP policies and procedures.

Building on more than 20 years of presence and expertise in Kosovo, UNDP aims to expand people’s choices for a fairer, sustainable future with people and the planet in balance. UNDP in Kosovo programme works in the following areas contributing toward the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals:

Sustainable Development Goals

The Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), otherwise known as the Global Goals, are a universal call to action to end poverty, protect the planet and ensure that all people enjoy peace and prosperity.

Covid 19

The COVID-19 pandemic evolved into the worst global health and socio-economic crisis of our times. Immediately after the outbreak, UNDP Kosovo mobilized resources to provide support to Kosovo’s already fragile healthcare and social protection systems.

Our News centre is a one-stop shop for multimedia press coverage and in-depth information on development-related issues. We provide news announcements, press releases and statements by UNDP leadership.

“We are a proud group of women. Proud to, despite all, spread goodness and love to all around us. We have never given up and have found the strength to overcome all obstacles. During the pandemic, we have used our sewing skills to produce masks and distribute to schools and people in general. We went out and gave them away, free of charge, to every passerby. That is love”.

Those are the words with which Mire Salihu, the Secretary of the ”Lidhja e Invalidëve, viktimave dhe të zhdukurve në Kosovë” (Association of Invalids, Victims, and the Missing in Kosovo) in Fushë Kosovë/Kosovo Polje as she greets us. Her enthusiasm is irresistible and when she speaks it is from the heart.
