XVI Ministerial Forum for Development to Harness the Power of Resilience to Overcome Development Challenges in Latin America and the Caribbean

October 28, 2024

WHAT:

The XVI Ministerial Forum for Development in Latin America and the Caribbean will discuss how the region can advance and protect social gains in the context of more frequent and intense shocks.

This gathering builds on the discussions initiated at the XIII Ministerial Forum in Antigua and Barbuda in 2021, which discussed disasters and social protection systems in the context of protracted crises.

The Forum is co-organized and hosted by the Government of Barbados with the support of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) in Latin America and the Caribbean and the Economic Commission for Latin America and the Caribbean (ECLAC).

In the context of the Forum, the Sixth Meeting of the Presiding Officers of the Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean, one of ECLAC's subsidiary bodies, will take place.

WHEN: October 30 - November 1, 2024

WHERE: Wyndham Grand Barbados, Sam Lord’s Castle

BACKGROUND:

The Ministerial Forum for Development in Latin America and the Caribbean was held for the first time in 2007 to provide ministers and other decision-makers with a space to discuss experiences in public policies around human and social development and to identify responses to the region's new challenges. Since 2015, the Forum is organized in coordination with the Regional Conference on Social Development in Latin America and the Caribbean. The main theme of the Fourth Session of the Regional Conference on Social Development, organized virtually in 2021 by ECLAC, the Government of Antigua and Barbuda and UNDP, was Disasters and inequality in a protracted crisis: towards universal, comprehensive, resilient, and sustainable social protection systems in Latin America and the Caribbean
