UNDP Seychelles 2024 Annual Report

April 11, 2025

The 2024 UNDP Seychelles Annual Report highlights the nation’s development progress and resilience amid significant challenges. Ranked 1st in Africa on the Mo Ibrahim Governance Index and 67th globally on the HDI, Seychelles continues to advance in education, healthcare, and poverty reduction. However, the country faced major setbacks following the December 2023 floods and explosion, with losses exceeding USD 100 million. These events underscored the vulnerabilities of Small Island Developing States to climate-related disasters. Economic challenges persist, including high income inequality, overreliance on tourism, and limited growth. The National Development Strategy (2024–2028) focuses on governance, economic diversification, digitalization, and climate adaptation. Through initiatives in climate resilience, sustainable resource management, digital innovation, and support for women-led enterprises, UNDP remains a key partner in advancing inclusive, sustainable development in Seychelles and amplifying SIDS voices on the global stage.
