Survey on access to justice in the Republic of Moldova

Survey on access to justice in the Republic of Moldova
March 25, 2025
The sociological survey was conducted to analyse access to justice in the Republic of Moldova through a people-centered approach. It analysed the types of disputes, the methods of their resolution, and the financial, social, and legal impact on individuals who interacted with professionals and institutions within the justice system.
Additionally, the survey assessed respondents' trust in institutions such as courts, the police, and legal aid service providers, as well as their knowledge of the law and human rights.
To improve the justice sector and ensure equal access to a fair trial, the authors of the survey recommended several measures for authorities to consider, which could serve as a foundation for public policy development in this area.
The survey was conducted between April and August 2024 on a nationally representative sample of 3,066 individuals aged 18 and older. It was based on focus groups and surveys conducted both among individuals who interacted with legal service providers and justice system institutions and among justice sector professionals, including judges, prosecutors, lawyers, notaries, and mediators.
The survey on access to justice in the Republic of Moldova was carried by UNDP Moldova with financial support from Germany and Sweden.
