Readout of UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner’s meeting with H.E. KADA Hiroyuki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Justice of Japan

The Administrator of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), Achim Steiner, met this afternoon with H.E. KADA Hiroyuki, Parliamentary Vice-Minister for Justice of Japan.
During the meeting, held at the Ministry in Tokyo, Administrator Steiner expressed his deepest condolences on the tragic loss of former Prime Minister Abe.
Administrator Steiner and Parliamentary Vice-Minister Kada also exchanged views on the significant role that the rule of law and justice have to play towards the achievement of the 2030 Agenda and the Sustainable Development Goals and in ensuring human security. Steiner expressed his sincere gratitude for Japan’s continued support to UNDP’s Global Programme on the Rule of Law and Human Rights.
Administrator Steiner commended Japan’s lead role in the organization of the 14th United Nations Congress on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice, held in Kyoto, Japan, in March 2021. He also highlighted the work of Japan’s Justice Affairs Diplomacy initiative, which aims at promoting the rule of law, including through the provision of legal technical assistance to countries in Asia.
