The Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme (NJFP), implemented by the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), has a clear goal: to empower Nigerian youth by matching them with organisations where they can learn top-notch skills and gain practical knowledge.

We are proud to highlight the journey and achievements of some of our fellows who have recently completed a transformative one-year fellowship with the El-Kanemi Memorial Foundation (EMF). Their stories are not just testimonials of personal growth but also a reflection of how UNDP in collaboration with the Federal Government of Nigeria and the European Union, is contributing to the broader socio-economic development of Nigeria through youth empowerment.

Lawan Kyari

LAWAN KYARI

Lawan Kyari's journey with EMF exemplifies the essence of the Nigeria Jubilee Fellows Programme—growth through hands-on experience and continuous learning. Starting as a field worker in the education department, Lawan quickly demonstrated his capability and potential by delivering quality work. His commitment and dedication led to his promotion as Field Coordinator - a role in which oversees volunteers.

One of his key contributions was the successful launch of the “Book to Child” project in Jere Local Government Area, Borno State, that is improving educational resources for children in need. Beyond local initiatives, Lawan has represented EMF at various national events, significantly broadening his exposure and expertise in humanitarian efforts. His crowning achievement earned him the International Goodwill Ambassador Award 2022 in Abuja—an honor that speaks volumes about his impact and the NJFP’s role in nurturing future leaders.

Naomi Bulus

NAOMI BULUS ZUBAIRU

Naomi Bulus Zubairu’s fellowship experience has been equally transformative. Initially assigned as a Field Assistant, she soon moved to the role of Field Supervisor due to her profound impact and growing expertise. Naomi played a pivotal role in advocating for the rights of the girl child as seen during her participation at the International Day of the Girl Child at the Girls' Academy Maiduguri.

Her involvement in distributing educational materials to pupils at Al-miskin Camp and her efforts in child protection, including specialized training with Save the Children International and Goal Prime Organization of Nigeria, underscore her dedication to making a lasting societal impact.

BABAGANA ALI KURA

Babagana Ali Kura’s path in the NJFP has been marked by his acute focus on child safeguarding and advocacy. His foundational training with EMF and additional certifications from Save the Children International have equipped him with the skills necessary to champion advocacy campaigns and support emergency educational initiatives. His role as Advocacy and Localization Assistant has allowed him to make significant contributions to our partner organizations and the communities we serve.

ALHERI DANIAL and CATHERINE ANYIGOR

Alheri Danial and Catherine Anyigor have both shown remarkable progress and dedication in their respective roles. Alheri’s involvement as a community engagement assistant in sensitizing communities about educational opportunities and child labour has been critical. Meanwhile, Catherine, starting as an HR assistant and progressing to a Compliance Officer, has showcased her expertise in child safeguarding policies through significant research projects conducted around Maiduguri.

THE ROAD AHEAD

These stories of the NJFP fellows— Lawan, Naomi, Babagana, Alheri, and Catherine —are just a few examples of how the programme is actively contributing to the empowerment of Nigerian youth and the betterment of our society. They are not just beneficiaries of a programme but are beacons of hope and agents of change in their communities.

Through these partnerships and the continual support of the Federal Government of Nigeria and funding support by the European Union, UNDP together with our partners remain committed to expanding these opportunities and fostering an environment where more young people can thrive and contribute to Nigeria’s long-term development. As we look to the future, the NJFP is excited to continue this journey of empowerment, development, and success.
