Considering Uzbekistan’s climate conditions, the amount of electricity generated using solar energy can easily exceed the annual consumption of such a house. This surplus electrical energy could be sold to the grid. Within the “Market Transformation for Sustainable Rural Housing in Uzbekistan” project implemented jointly by UNDP and the Ministry of Construction of Uzbekistan and funded by the Global Environment Facility (GEF), the construction of the first nearly zero-energy house will be soon completed. This demo house is located in Yoshlik mahalla in the city of Nurafshan, of Tashkent region. Electrical energy will be generated by photovoltaic systems. Zero energy consumption will be achieved through strengthened thermal insulation of the building envelope. The house’s carbon footprint (CO2 emissions) will be minimal, and so it will be considered “green” – both climate and environmentally – friendly. Also, being able to maintain optimal temperatures in both winter and summer mean the house’s living conditions can be kept very comfortable.
